I'm thrilled you're here.

I was born in Ankara, grew up in Izmir and live in Toronto, Ontario 🍁. I am the proud father of a handsome boy with a heart of gold and the husband of a lovely and beautiful lady.

Ever since my days as a civil engineering student, I've harbored a dream that's as expansive as the megastructures I once watched on a documentary - the dream of building various types of buildings across the globe and being part of monumental construction projects.

That dream wasn't just a fleeting thought. It propelled me into the heart of some of the most exciting construction projects out there. I've had the incredible opportunity to work on two mega construction projects and various other projects in Canada, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Libya, and Azerbaijan.

But my journey didn't stop at just building structures. Along the way, I've dedicated myself to honing my coding and project management skills, believing that these tools are just as crucial in constructing a successful career as they are in constructing buildings.

Now, I'm turning a new page. I want to share the wealth of experience and knowledge I've gathered over the years with you. My website will soon feature courses and articles centered on Design, Construction, Project Management, and boosting Productivity. These resources are crafted from real-world experiences and insights, tailored to help you in your journey, whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out.

Stay in the loop and catch all the latest posts by subscribing to my newsletter. I can't wait to embark on this exciting journey of learning and growth together!

Sincerely,
Erdem

Worked as Technical Office Manager at SBG PBAD

Mecca / SAUDI ARABIA

The expansion of the Masjid al-Haram project in Mecca represents a monumental undertaking that combines advanced engineering techniques with meticulous cultural and religious considerations. Technically, this project involves significant structural expansions to accommodate more worshippers, incorporating state-of-the-art materials and construction methods to ensure both the durability and the aesthetic integrity of the structure. Key challenges include managing the immense crowd flow, ensuring the safety of millions of pilgrims, and preserving the historical and spiritual aspects of the site. The project employs cutting-edge technologies such as 3D modeling and advanced simulation tools for structural analysis and crowd management. Additionally, it involves intricate work on underground tunnels and new service facilities, all while adhering to stringent environmental and sustainability standards. This expansion not only enhances the capacity and facilities of the mosque but also ensures that its sacred ambiance and architectural heritage are respectfully preserved.

Increasing Mataf Capacity

Public-Private Partnership (PPP or P3) project

Reinforcement & Concrete works, etc. Over $20 Billion USD

Worked as Technical Office Manager at SBG PBAD

Mecca / SAUDI ARABIA

The increasing Mataf Capacity project is a part of the Expansion of Masjid Al Haram Project. In August 2011, the government announced further details of the expansion. It would cover an area of 400,000 m2 (4,300,000 sq ft) and accommodate 1.2 million worshippers, including a multi-level extension on the north side of the complex, new stairways and tunnels, and two minarets, bringing the total number of minarets to eleven. The circumambulation areas (Mataf) around the Kaaba would be expanded and all closed spaces receive air conditioning. After completion, it would raise the mosque's capacity from 770,000 to over 2.5 million worshippers.

"Increasing Mataf Capacity" project in Mecca represents a monumental construction endeavour aimed at expanding and enhancing the Mataf area - the circumambulation zone around the Kaaba. This ambitious project was initiated to accommodate the ever-growing number of pilgrims participating in the Hajj and Umrah, aiming to increase the capacity of the Mataf to allow hundreds of thousands of worshippers to perform Tawaf (the ritual of circling the Kaaba) simultaneously and more comfortably. The expansion involved extensive architectural and engineering feats, including the addition of new floors, expansion of existing structures, and the integration of advanced crowd management technologies. This project not only underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to facilitating religious practices but also highlights the blend of traditional Islamic architecture with modern construction techniques, ensuring safety, efficiency, and preservation of the spiritual ambiance of the holy site.

Total Area for the New Construction: 1,265,330 sqft
Strength of the Concrete: 100 MPa.
Column diameter: up to 6.56ft w/ T40 Coupler Vert. Reinforcements up to 150 pcs.

What I am focusing on

Sustainable and Green Building Practices

With growing environmental concerns and the push for sustainability, studying sustainable construction methods is crucial. This includes green building standards, use of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient design, and waste reduction techniques. Understanding how to balance environmental responsibility with economic feasibility will be key.

Advanced Construction Technologies

The integration of cutting-edge technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM), 3D printing, autonomous construction vehicles, and AI in construction processes is transforming the industry. Future construction project managers should study how these technologies can improve efficiency, accuracy, and safety in construction projects

AI Technologies for

Project Management & Construction Management

AI technologies in project management and construction management represent a significant leap forward in optimizing efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making processes. In project management, AI can analyze large volumes of data to forecast project timelines, identify potential risks, and provide insights for better resource allocation, thereby enhancing overall project efficiency. In construction management, AI is pivotal in areas like predictive maintenance, where it anticipates equipment failures before they occur, and in monitoring construction progress through image recognition and analysis. The integration of AI in these fields leads to improved safety measures, cost savings, and streamlined workflows, ultimately contributing to the more effective completion of projects.
